This is the second year I’ve done this challenge. Last year I did odors, something that should be integral to any fiction writing. This year I’ve taken on something that has been challenging but a lot of fun: Renaissance artists and their art.
I was an art minor in college and took two courses on Renaissance art. Some of my happiest hours were those spent poring over the art books in the college library, learning to recognize the artists and their work. Trying to write a short summary of the artist’s life, deciphering their contribution to the development of art at the time, and picking appropriate examples has been challenging.
I hope you enjoy the results!
Don’t forget to left click on each of the pictures to see each work of art in all it’s detail and beauty!
Oh, I love your theme. Can’t wait for the art education to commence!

Love it, Noelle. History is one of my passions, and combining history with art … this is going to be great.
See you around soon.
Ooooo! I’ve been wanting to learn more about Renaissance artists for a while, so this is perfect! Thank you!

Art is a good topic. Gives you an opportunity to put up some nice images.

You know, I’ve disliked the Arnolfini wedding ever since my third year at secondary school (age c13) when it hung on the classroom wall in front of me all day every day 😀 It’s very clever, though. Looking forward to learning something about Renaissance art with you 🙂

So sorry you have a bad memory of this painting. I’ve always been fascinated by what is reflected in the mirror!
I’m so glad that fellow bloggers are looking forward to this. Makes me work harder on it!
Wow, this is so cool! I’m new to the A-Z Challenge, but I’m loving it already. I loved art history in college too, (in fact it lead me back to making my own art!) so I’m really looking forward to learning more.
I read your profile – so you are a scientist, too! What drives us to writing (things other than grants and papers)?
I actually work in a service laboratory, so no grants or papers for me. As to how I came to writing stories, I still wonder about that myself. Sometimes it feels more like magic, unable to be explained by science at all!
Now that’s an interesting theme for the Challenge!
And a whole lot of effort!
I’m looking forward to your A to Z posts. Renaissance art is a favourite of my wife’s and I may actually learn something that doesn’t result in her staring at me with a blank expression.
Well the posts are pretty short but you may be able to recognize something and impress her!
This sounds fun and classy!
Thanks! Right now in the middle of it, it’s just a whole lotta work~
I’m an art lover. In 11th grade my English teacher made us memorize 50 famous paintings and the artists name, and the years he or she live. “Grant Wood. American Gothic. Don’t remember the years.” I can still do about 2/3 of the paintings, but the years are long since gone. I think this is going to be great!
